The Argentina national team has had anything but an easy time of it reaching the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.  If they manage to win the championships, it will be the first World Cup win for the nation in 24 years, something the team and the fans have longed for.  While the Argentinean have certainly fielded a strong team this year, they have met with struggles at every turn.

Reaching the World Cup has not been simple for the Argentina national team.  Their season has been marked by narrow victories and an early defeat that seemed destined to hold them back from the championships.  However, the team rallied their players and fans rejoiced during the games against Uruguay and Peru, which helped to cinch the World Cup ticket for the team.

Argentina has quite a few players of not, though Lionel Messi is perhaps the most notable.  Widely regarded as the best player in the world, Messi made a name for himself playing for Barcelona.  Javier Mascherano is the team captain, while Jan Sebastian Veron will also have a starring role in the 2010 performance.  The team is more than willing to go the distance, but it remains to be seen if they can shake off the malaise that seems to have plagued them for so many consecutive years.  If a win is had, it will be the first world championship for the team since 1986.

Coaching the Argentina national team is Diego Maradona, one of the most skillful players ever to set foot on a soccer field.  Maradona is a skilled player and he has been able to translate that skill, verve and passion into his career as a coach.  Certainly, he’ll need to bring everything to bear at once to make Argentina the world champion during the world cup 2010 competition.  Of course, it helps that he has actually won the World Cup for his country in the past (as a player).

The Argentinean national team has a lot going for it and they stand an excellent chance of winning the tournament if they can remain focused and avoid lackluster performances.  It’s certain that their star players will have to be at the top of their game, though fans seem convinced that the championship is already in the bag for their country.  Of course, if other teams out there have anything to say about it, Argentina will have a difficult road.
